Course Description
This course introduces the fundamentals of mass, momentum, and energy conservation; reactor thermodynamics; reactor fluid mechanics; and two-phase flow and heat transfer within a reactor’s primary heat transport system. It provides a condensed overview of the full UN804 graduate course, covering the design and operation of primary heat transport systems across various reactor types, including key components, design objectives, and engineering processes. Additional topics include heat and mass transfer in the reactor core, the design and operation of secondary heat transport systems in CANDU and pressurized reactors, reactor thermal efficiency, thermal margins, critical heat flux, dryout and post-dryout heat transfer, and pressure drop characteristics throughout primary system components.
