and

Wei Shen

Prerequisites

Registration in the UNENE M.Eng. or UNENE Diploma Program

Course Description

This course equips students with a solid foundation in the core physical principles that govern nuclear reactors, while fostering critical, independent thinking and strong problem-solving skills. Students develop the ability to analyze reactor physics scenarios and apply theoretical concepts to practical situations. Key topics include neutron-induced nuclear reactions, the nuclear-fission chain reaction, fundamental quantities and methods used to describe neutron behaviour and power production in reactors, both static and time-dependent diffusion equations, and essential elements of CANDU reactor design.

Important dates

Midterm:

Final: November 15, 2026

Preparation

It is recommended that students attend the Reactor Physics Short Course on September 6 and 7, to be delivered by Dr. Rouben and Dr. Wei Shen.
